The French Riviera remains the world’s premier luxury yacht charter destination. Between May and October, the 200 kilometers of coastline stretching from the Italian border to the Camargue concentrate more superyachts, more prestigious events and more HNWI clientele than any other body of water in the world.
This guide covers everything you need to plan a yacht charter on the French Riviera in 2026 — the best destinations, must-attend events, finest anchorages, ideal itineraries and the fleet available from International Yachts Charter and Brokerage XXIII.
Why Charter a Yacht on the French Riviera
The French Riviera offers something no land-based rental can replicate — the freedom to move between Cannes, Monaco and Saint-Tropez in a single day, sleep in a different anchorage each night, with a private chef preparing every meal and a professional crew managing every detail.
The yacht is your hotel, your restaurant, your private beach club and your transport — all in one place. And unlike a fixed hotel, it moves with you.
What makes the French Riviera unique for yacht charter:
- The world’s highest concentration of superyacht infrastructure — marinas, fueling, provisioning, technical support
- World-class events from May to October — Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Lions, Monaco Yacht Show, Voiles de Saint-Tropez
- Exceptional anchorages — Îles de Lérins, Cap d’Antibes, Estérel coast, Gulf of Saint-Tropez
- Gastronomy and wine culture that elevate onboard dining to an exceptional level
- Easy access from all major European hubs — Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, Monaco heliport, private airfields
The Three Essential Destinations
Cannes — Film, Business and the Lérins Bay
Cannes is the Riviera’s most event-driven destination. The Cannes Film Festival in May, Cannes Lions in June, the Datacloud Global Congress in June, MIPCOM in October and the Cannes Yachting Festival in September — Cannes hosts more major international events than any other city on the Riviera.
For yacht charter, Cannes offers two distinct experiences. During events — the Bay of Cannes with yachts anchored in prime position facing the Palais des Festivals. Outside events — the Îles de Lérins (Sainte-Honorat and Sainte-Marguerite), ten minutes by tender from the bay, with crystal-clear waters and absolute privacy.
Best anchorages around Cannes:
- Bay of Cannes — event positioning, city access
- Îles de Lérins — transparent water, pine forests, no crowds
- Cap d’Antibes — sheltered from the mistral, magnificent coastline
Monaco — The Principality on the Water
Monaco is the most prestigious address on the Riviera — and in the world. Port Hercule accommodates superyachts up to 160 meters and is located at the heart of the Principality, within walking distance of the Casino, the Palace, the finest restaurants and the Formula 1 circuit.
During the Monaco Grand Prix — June 4 to 7, 2026 — yachts berthed at Quai Rainier III have a direct view of the chicane. The single-seaters pass within 50 meters. This is the most exclusive grandstand in world motorsport.
Outside event weeks, Monaco offers permanent berthing in one of the world’s most protected harbors, immediate access to the Principality’s exceptional dining scene and the unique atmosphere of a city-state where the entire waterfront is a superyacht marina.
Key events in Monaco:
- Monaco Grand Prix — June 4 to 7, 2026
- Monaco Yacht Show — September 23 to 26, 2026
Saint-Tropez — The Authentic Riviera
Saint-Tropez is the most authentically Mediterranean destination on the Riviera. Its old port, its Citadel, its market on Place des Lices, its beach clubs on the Pampelonne peninsula — Club 55, Nikki Beach, Plage des Jumeaux — define the Riviera lifestyle that the rest of the coast seeks to replicate.
From a yacht, Saint-Tropez is best experienced at anchor in the Gulf — tender access to the port in 10 minutes, direct access to Pampelonne beach clubs, and the extraordinary spectacle of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez in late September — 250 classic and racing sailboats filling the Gulf for nine days.
Key events in Saint-Tropez:
- Voiles de Saint-Tropez — September 26 to October 4, 2026
- Giraglia Rolex Cup — June 2026
- Paradis Porsche — October 9 to 11, 2026

The Finest Anchorages on the French Riviera
Îles de Lérins — 10 minutes from the Bay of Cannes. Two islands — Sainte-Marguerite and Sainte-Honorat. Transparent water over posidonia seagrass beds, pine forests to the water’s edge, Cistercian abbey on Sainte-Honorat. No cars, no crowds.
Cap d’Antibes — the most sheltered anchorage on the western Riviera. The Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc dominates the cape from above. Excellent holding, magnificent coastline.
Cap Ferrat — between Monaco and Nice. The most exclusive real estate on the Riviera. Anchorage in the bay facing the peninsula. The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is accessible by tender.
Gulf of Saint-Tropez — the largest and most sheltered on the Riviera. Room for hundreds of yachts. Direct tender access to Pampelonne and the old port.
Estérel Coast — the red porphyry cliffs between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël create the most dramatic coastal landscapes on the Riviera. Several small coves accessible only by sea.
How to Choose Your Yacht for the French Riviera
The French Riviera suits most yacht types, but certain specific criteria deserve attention.
Draft is decisive — some of the best anchorages at the Îles de Lérins have shallow approaches. Our RILASSATA (2.25 m draft) and our ABELY (2.00 m) access anchorages that deeper-draft yachts cannot reach.
Speed is key for events — if your itinerary covers Cannes, Monaco and Saint-Tropez in the same week, a fast yacht (25+ knots) maximizes your time at each destination. ASCENSION at 25 knots covers Monaco → Saint-Tropez in 1h30.
Size and privacy — for high-attendance events like the Monaco Grand Prix or Cannes Film Festival, a large yacht offers the privacy and space necessary for entertaining. ANNAMIA (43 m, 12 guests) and RILASSATA (49.8 m, 12 guests) are the benchmarks for event charter.
