Why a Superyacht Is the Best Vantage Point<\/h3>

Anchoring in Santorini\u2019s caldera is one of the most spectacular in the world\u2014an experience only a boat can offer. From the hotels and villages perched on the cliffs, the caldera is visible but distant. From the deck of a superyacht anchored 200 metres from the cliffs, immersion is total\u2014the coloured walls surround you on all sides, the illuminated villages reflect in the calm water, and the silence is broken only by the gentle waves against the hull. <\/p>

The caldera seabed is sandy down to 30\u201340 metres\u2014perfectly suited to anchoring a superyacht. Average depth is 100 to 150 metres in the centre, but the usual anchoring areas are at perfectly manageable depths. <\/p>

Our captain pays particular attention to two elements when anchored in the caldera. First, the winds\u2014the caldera can amplify northerly winds. In the event of an established Meltemi, our captain repositions the yacht towards the island\u2019s east coast, which offers better protection. Second, ferry traffic\u2014high-speed vessels linking Santorini to the other Cyclades islands run through the caldera all day. How to Reach Oia from the Yacht<\/h3>

By tender to Ammoudi<\/strong> \u2014 the small fishing port lies 200 metres below Oia, at the foot of the cliffs. Our tender docks there directly. From Ammoudi, two options to reach Oia\u2014on foot via the 200 steps carved into the volcanic rock (30 minutes, exceptional views at every landing) or by taxi from the main road. <\/p>
